Noticing signs of ADHD in your child and taking that first step to beginning their ADHD journey can be tough for a parent. Whether you yourself have ADHD or not you may feel anxious, begin to overthink and stress about what you can do or what you should do at home. 

 

Their Environment

Some of the most common ADHD symptoms are inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. This at times can cause accidents or injury. Ensuring your children's environment is as safe as possible is important for them to feel safe and for you to feel relaxed around their safety. 

All children require an interesting and stimulating environment that will give them opportunities to explore, discover and develop their life skills. Children with ADHD are no different. What is imperative for a child with ADHD is that they are properly supervised. Do not set them up to fail or have an accident

Your ADHD Friend

Maintaining good friendships in adulthood can be difficult as other aspects of your life become busier. Add ADHD into this mix and it can feel extremely overwhelming. ADHD can cause your life to feel out of balance. Trying to manage your time between appointments, work, kids, hobbies, can be so overwhelming. Often whilst trying to manage everyday life meeting with friends and making time for them can be put on the back burner for a while. 

 

Some ADHD traits that may effect maintaining your friendships...

- Struggles with time management

- Overwhelm

- Struggling with memory 

- Emotional regulation

- Anxiety 

- RSD (Rejection sensitivity dysphoria)

 

Our Advice...

- Become aware of your thoughts and feelings when it comes to meeting friends etc, what is stopping you - is there a particular recurring thought in your head? 

- Explain to your friends what you are experiencing, how your brain thinks.  

- Let your friends know you still care for them and your friendship
