We advise all patients to read this information carefully. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please contact [email protected] and we will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
We understand that private healthcare can be expensive, and therefore we are asking our patients to only book appointments when necessary and required by guidelines. We are always transparent with our fees, which are available both on our website and our online booking system.
If you decide to see one of our clinicians, you will still be able to transfer your own, or your child’s treatment, to the NHS. If you or your child have been recommended to start ADHD medication, we will ask your GP to provide you with an NHS prescription. While in most cases this is possible, we cannot guarantee this, and we recommend that patients speak to their GP first and find out what treatment can be offered by their local NHS following private assessment.
ADHD Initial Assessment
After booking an ADHD Initial Assessment, you will receive a set of self-report questionnaires and will be asked to complete them. For a ‘Child ADHD Initial Assessment’, a separate set of questionnaires will also be sent to the parent(s)/carer(s) of the child. These should be forwarded to the child’s school and then returned to our admin team. For an ‘Adult ADHD Initial Assessment’, an additional set of questionnaires will be sent to an ‘observer’ – someone who knows you well and can answer questions about you from an observational perspective. Completed questionnaires are then added to your/your child’s file, then read and reviewed by your assigned clinician.
An ADHD Initial Assessment is focussed primarily on assessment and diagnosis. Once the appointment is complete, and Assessment Report will be sent you and your/your child’s GP.
Please note that the ADHD Assessment fee covers ADHD assessment only. It does not cover further appointments, such as Medication Reviews, or Coaching Sessions.
Medication Reviews
If you or your child begin treatment for ADHD, you will need to be monitored regularly by one of our ADHD specialists. During a Medication Review appointment, a clinician will check the efficacy of your treatment, as well as any potential side-effects you may be experiencing. Your blood pressure, pulse, and weight will also be checked, as well as your general mental health, sleep patterns, and appetite. For children’s medication reviews, height will also be checked.
At first, we may ask you to book Medication Review appointments every 6-8 weeks. However, once your treatment is stable, and no changes to your medication are required, we will ask you to book Medication Reviews much less often – every three, six, or twelve months.
More frequent Medication Review appointments will, in most situations, apply to patients who are in the opening stages of initiating their ADHD treatment. Some patients will try one type of ADHD medication and will not need to be changed to a different type. Other patients may need to change either the type or dose of their medication several times before finding their optimum medication – one that will reduce or eliminate their ADHD symptoms, without causing adverse side-effects.

What do we need from you before your appointment?
Forms and Questionnaires
When we send forms and questionnaires to our patients, those forms should be returned before the appointment. This will allow our admin team time to upload completed forms to the patient file, and give time for the relevant clinician to read them.
While we know that for some of our patients, filling out forms is not easy, it is important that all forms and sections are completed.
NOTE: Failure to return completed forms and questionnaires before the scheduled appointment deadline will result in the appointment being cancelled, and any deposit paid may be kept by ADHD Direct.
Measurements: Blood Pressure, Pulse, Weight
Patients who book a Medication Review will be asked to check their measurements and send them to ADHD Direct via our email: [email protected]
Some patients, who receive private prescriptions from ADHD Direct, may not be able to continue their treatment until up-to-date measurements are provided.
Shared Care – what it is and how it works?
Shared Care is an arrangement between a private healthcare provider and the NHS. Shared Care is when a patient decides to pay for his or her own treatment, but their prescription is supplied by their NHS GP. At ADHD Direct, we share care with GPs by looking after patients within their Medication Review appointments, and co-working with GPs to issue prescriptions. Every time one of our clinicians meets with a patient, a letter is sent to their GP, summarising treatment, and recommending specific ADHD medication. Based on this recommendation, GPs can then issue prescriptions. Shared Care allows patients who, for various reasons, decide to pursue private healthcare to look after their finances in a cost-effective way.
We always advise patients to contact their GP prior to assessment, to see if they would be happy to prescribe ADHD medication should it be required. The decision to prescribe through the NHS is up to the individual GP. Although it is uncommon, some GPs may refuse to prescribe ADHD medication based on our recommendation. In cases where a GP refuses to engage in Shared Care, we can offer private prescriptions. Private prescriptions involve the additional cost of the medication and the private prescription itself.
NOTE: Our clinicians will communicate with and write to the GPs of all patients who receive private prescriptions from ADHD Direct. This is to ensure that GPs have information on any medications a patient may receive.
NOTE: All private prescriptions are valid for 28 days only. The means that 28 days after the prescription was issued, the prescription will no longer be accepted by pharmacies.
Cost of Private Prescriptions and Medications
The private prescription fee is not the only cost a patient needs to cover if a GP declines to engage in Shared Care. Please find the estimated costs of ADHD medication below – but be aware that these are estimated costs only, as different pharmacies will have individual fees.

Medication Reviews and Coaching Sessions
We ask our patients to pay in full when booking Medication Reviews or ADHD Coaching Sesisons.
Virtual Appointments
We ask all our patients to ensure that they are able to connect with their clinician via Zoom. The Zoom app can be downloaded for free online, and it also possible to use Zoom within your internet browser.
We ask all our patients who choose to book online virtual appointments, to test their connection before the appointment time.
Private Health Insurance
We advise that patients check with their insurer before booking an appointment with ADHD Direct – and ensure that they comply with their pre-authorisation policy. In most cases, patients will need to pay upfront for their session, then claim the cost subsequently from their insurer.
What do we need from you before the appointment?
There is certain information that patients must provide ADHD Direct before attending for their appointment. Our clinicians may not be able to complete the appointment or communicate with patient’s GP if they will not be given this information by the patient.
Forms and questionnaires
While we know that for some of our patients, filling out forms is not easy, it is important that all forms and all sections of received forms are completed. This is especially important for ADHD and Autism Assessments.
NOTE: Failure to return completed questionnaires before the appointment will result in cancelling the appointment and the deposit paid will be kept by ADHD Direct. New appointment will need to be booked and new deposit will need to be paid.
Measurements – blood pressure, pulse, weight
Patients who attend the clinic for their Medication Review face-to-face appointment will have their blood pressure, pulse and weight checked by one of the nurses. Children will also have their height checked. Those of our patients who choose to book Medication Review as a virtual appointment will be asked to check their measurements by themselves and send these measurements to ADHD Direct by email. We can recommend blood pressure monitors – please ask one of our staff for this recommendation.
NOTE: Our clinicians will not communicate with patient’s GP until measurements are provided. This may result in patients’ treatment being stopped.
Those of our patients who receive private prescriptions from ADHD Direct, may not be able to continue their treatment until up-to-date measurements are provided before/during patient’s Medication Review appointment.
Attending for regular Medication Review appointments
Patients who are taking ADHD medication must be regularly monitored by ADHD Specialist. When our patients’ treatment is not changing and patient is not reporting any side effects, we will be asking to meet with patients for a Medication Review appointment every six or twelve months.
Medication Review appointments will however need to happen more frequently when patient’s medication will be changing, or just after initiating ADHD treatment. As per NICE guidelines ADHD Clinicians must meet with the patient 4 – 6 weeks after:
More frequent Medication Review appointments will in most situations apply to patients who are initiating their ADHD treatment. Some patients will try one type of ADHD medication and will not need to be changing it to different type of the medication. Other patients will need to change either the type or dose of their medication several times, before finding optimum dose, one that will reduce or eliminate ADHD symptoms without potential side effects.
Shared Care – what it is and how it works?
Shared Care is an arrangement between Private Healthcare provider and the NHS. Shared care is when patient makes a decision to pay for his or her treatment, but his or her prescriptions are being done by NHS GP. We – ADHD Direct - are “sharing care” over our patients with these patients’ GPs by looking after patients during Medication Review appointments, and co-working with GPs. Every time our consultants meet with a patient, a letter is being sent to patient’s GP summarising patient’s treatment and recommending specific ADHD medication. Based on this recommendation, GP writes prescription. Shared care allows patients, who for various reasons decide to join Private Healthcare to look after their finance in a cost-effective way.
We always advise patients to contact their GP to see if they would be happy to prescribe ADHD medication should it be required. The decision to prescribe via the NHS is up to the individual GP. Although it does not happen often, some GPs refuse to prescribe ADHD medication based on our recommendation. We have also worked with GPs who agree to prescribe and provide patient with the NHS prescription only when patient’s treatment is stable and no side effects are being reported. In case when GP refuses to engage in shared care, we can offer private prescriptions and there is a group of patients who receive private prescriptions from our service regularly. Private prescriptions involve additional costs of medication and private prescriptions themselves.
NOTE: Our clinicians will also communicate with and write to GP’s of patients who receive private prescriptions from ADHD Direct. This is to ensure that GPs have information on all the medication/prescriptions that patients receive, including the medication/prescriptions from private healthcare providers.
Costs of private prescriptions and medication
Private prescription fee is not the only cost that patients need to cover when GPs refuse to engage in shared care. Please see below for estimated costs of ADHD medication. We are providing estimated costs only, as different pharmacies will add individual provision/mark up.
NOTE: all private prescriptions are valid for 28 days only. This means that after 28 days from the date written on the prescription has passed, the prescription will no longer be accepted by the pharmacy.
